{"id":628,"date":"2026-03-13T13:21:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianjewishlawassociation.org\/?p=628"},"modified":"2026-03-13T13:21:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:21:23","slug":"cjla-congratulates-the-honourable-marina-paperny-k-c-on-lifetime-achievement-recognition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianjewishlawassociation.org\/fr\/cjla-congratulates-the-honourable-marina-paperny-k-c-on-lifetime-achievement-recognition\/","title":{"rendered":"CJLA Congratulates the Honourable Marina Paperny, K.C. on Lifetime Achievement Recognition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Jewish Law Association (CJLA) proudly congratulates <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianjewishlawassociation.org\/fr\/who-we-are\/\"><strong>The Honourable Marina Sarah Paperny, K.C.<\/strong><\/a>, a director of CJLA, on being named the <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninlawleadership.ca\/alberta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>2026 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by Women in Law Leadership (WILL) Alberta<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The WILL Awards recognize outstanding members of the Alberta legal profession for their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the community, the profession, and the advancement of the law. The Lifetime Achievement Award is among the organization\u2019s highest honours and recognizes individuals whose careers have had a profound and lasting impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Paperny has had a distinguished career in the Canadian legal profession. After receiving her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, she returned to Calgary to practise litigation at Howard Mackie (now part of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP), where she became a partner and was later appointed King\u2019s Counsel. In 1996, she was appointed to the Court of King\u2019s Bench of Alberta, later serving on the Alberta Court of Appeal and other appellate courts including the Court of Appeal of the Northwest Territories, the Court of Appeal of Nunavut, and the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada. Over the course of 27 years on the bench, she authored numerous influential decisions across a wide range of legal areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the courtroom, Justice Paperny has been deeply involved in legal education, judicial independence initiatives, and access to justice efforts, including work with the Canadian Judicial Council and the International Association of Women Judges. She has also played an important role in supporting displaced Afghan women judges and advancing mentorship within the legal profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following her retirement from the bench, Justice Paperny joined Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in 2024 as Senior Counsel, where she continues to support the profession through mediation, arbitration, and mentorship of younger lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Paperny has also long been active within the Calgary Jewish community, serving in leadership and volunteer roles and supporting numerous community initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CJLA is honoured to count Justice Paperny among its leadership and extends its sincere congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Women in Law Leadership Awards Alberta ceremony will take place on November 19, 2026, in Calgary.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Jewish Law Association (CJLA) proudly congratulates The Honourable Marina Sarah Paperny, K.C., a director of CJLA, on being named the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by Women in Law Leadership (WILL) Alberta.
