ALCCA Points Challenges facing Jewish Canadians, including antisemitism and discrimination, urging action for justice and equality. As part of our mission statement, CJLA is determined to combat hate and discrimination in all manifestations. As we know, Jewish students, faculty and staff continue to face a pervasive wave of antisemitism often shrouded in the guise of anti-Zionism on Canadian campuses. Anti-Zionism is only a new form of antisemitism.
The recent settlement of the lawsuit against Harvard University for failing to protect the civil rights of Jewish students from antisemitic discrimination has many important terms that must guide our work in Canada; including the need for a clear adoption by our post-secondary institutions of the IHRA definition of antisemitism and to designate Zionism as a protected category under discrimination policies and codes of conduct.
Mark Sandler’s recent article on behalf of Alliance of Canadians Combatting Antisemitism – ALCCA poignantly points out the challenges we face in Canada and the action that is needed.
